WELCOME TO MRS. LASPINA'S THIRD GRADE CLASS Important Upcoming Information ISTEP Testing- Round 2 Third grade is scheduled to begin their second round of ISTEP testing on Wednesday, April 29th. This round will last for 5 days and is scheduled to end on Tuesday, May 5th. We will be taking this assessment on the computers. Due to having to share the computer labs with other classes, our testing times will vary from day to day. Please contact me if you have a specific question on what time we are testing on a certain day. Our schedules are subject to change due to technology glitches. Please try to plan for your child to be here the entire day during these dates. There will be no homework on testing daysJ Please make sure your child is well rested and eats a healthy breakfast and lunch. Also, please make sure students remember to bring their glasses.
Cultural Night Jackson Elementary will have Cultural Night on Thursday, May 14th. Due to the size of our student population we would like for 3rd-5th grade visitors to come from 6:00-7:00 and Pre School- 2nd grade visitors to come from 5:00-6:00. If you have children in both groups, please feel free to come to either session. Cultural night is a wonderful evening where we highlight our unique cultural identity as a school and also explore the rich elements of a variety of other countries from around the world. Food, music, information, and fun will be provided on this evening. Third grade will be studying Russia. We will be providing Russian food and tea for Cultural Night. I have attached 2 Russian recipes. If any family would like to test out their “Russian Chef” skills and help provide food for Cultural Night, please write me a note in your child’s agenda. We would need the dish delivered to school no later than 3:00 on Thursday, May 14th.
Third Grade Field Trip Third grade will be visiting the Indiana State Museum and IMAX Theater on Friday, May 15th. We were approved for a grant, which means there is no cost for students to attendJ Students will need to bring a sack lunch the day of the field trip. Permission slips will be coming home. Permission slips must be signed and returned for your child to attend the trip. Please make sure to include an updated phone number.
Book Orders Please consider ordering from the May book order. This would be a great opportunity to get your child excited about summer reading. Book orders are due this Wednesday, May 13th.
Multiplication Facts We have spent a great deal of time working on memorizing multiplication facts and some division facts in preparations for fourth grade. However, this work needs to continue at home as well. Students that have memorized all of their facts by the end of the year will be invited to an ice cream sundae partyJ
AR Points Reminder that the Accelerated Reader goal for 3rd grade students is 30 points. Students still have a couple of weeks to work on this goal. Tests can be taken at home during the week if you have internet access.
Summer Birthdays We have a few students that will not have the opportunity to celebrate their birthday with the class because it falls during the summer. If your child has a summer birthday and would like to bring in treats, they can do so on Friday, May 22nd. We have 26 students in our class. This is completely optional.
The last day of school for students is Friday, May 29th.
It is school policy that we must have a written note if your child will be going home a different way. A note in your child's agenda is sufficient (I check them on a daily basis). If we do not have a note we will attempt to contact you but many times students forget to tell us until the end of the day which does not give us time. If we don't have a written note, then your child will be sent home their regular way. Please remember to check your child's homework folder and sign their agenda on a daily basis!
